Joel's Belated Birthday Cake
I have a bunch of catchup photo blogging today, but I figured I'd start with these.
Yesterday I finally got time to make Joel a birthday cake, almost a MONTH after his birthday.
It was my first time doing a frozen buttercreme transfer, and while it could have been better, I'm really pretty pleased.
A FBC is done by placing an image underneath a sheet of wax paper and piping your design over it, freezing to firm the icing, flipping onto the cake and removing the wax paper.

anyway, I'm super excited about future cake decorating. My icing is not very smooth but I was REALLY in a hurry with a 5 month old to take care of.. I was not obsessed with perfection :)

That's a pretty clever technique, I will definately have to give it a try. Your cake looks great!

Frosting tools, I have few of. Bobbie got me a nice canvas pastry bag for Christmas one year (yay!). I have a few tips here and there that I picked up for specific jobs. Someday (someday..) I will get the full boxed set that you see everywhere with the zillion different tips. Meanwhile, the zipper bag trick works great. Especially if you don't want to worry about cleaning out tiny holes in non-disposable tools. :)

Oh yay!! Mail for me!!

Sometimes I feel like a hermit, but I think I get out often enough. My hubby's home with me during the day too, so that helps. And he's usually pretty good about getting me out when I "need" to. During the last month or so when I was preggers, I would get sooo panicky anytime I left the house. I just couldn't do it. Anyhoo... :)

Hey, how is that stuff, btw? Any good?

its okay. the smell of it gives me a headache but the taste is okay. My husband says he doesnt mind it. I think if I learn to hold my breath while I'm putting it into the brew pot it'd be just fine.
I've been mixing it with coffee for a lower caff version without all the awful chemicals of decaf.

I wish I LOVED it, because it turns out a few of the ingredients are supposed to up milk supply.

Either way, I'm glad I got to try it!

I did them myself, and here's the real kicker, I didnt have red!!!! I had to "make" red out of bright pink, yellow, and brown.. You can never make a true red, but I'm pretty pleased with myself.
